What the Group Is About

Men are taught to “be strong” and keep it together. But real strength isn’t about shutting down
—it’s about knowing when to stand tall and when to open up.

Strong Back, Soft Front is a 6-week program for men who want more steadiness under pressure,
more confidence in speaking their needs, and more intimacy in their relationships.

Inspired by Zen teacher Roshi Joan Halifax’s teaching of “Strong Back, Soft Front”
resilience balanced with vulnerability—this group is a space to practice strength with openness.


We’ll explore:

  • Strong Back: Learning to hold your ground with confidence and healthy boundaries.

  • Soft Front: Developing the courage to open, connect, and let others in without losing yourself.

  • Emotional Attunement: Building the skills to relate more deeply—to partners, family, and friends—with presence instead of defensiveness or withdrawal.

6 guided sessions led by a therapist and mindfulness teacher who knows men’s work

Practical skills you’ll take straight into your relationships, work, and daily life.

Strong Back is the inner steadiness that comes from knowing your values and standing firmly in them—a grounded presence that helps you face life’s challenges without collapsing or reacting in anger.

Soft Front is the willingness to stay open: to feel, to connect, and to meet yourself and others with compassion, curiosity, and honesty rather than armor.

Together, they create a way of living that is steady without being rigid, and open without leaving you unprotected.

Who It’s For

Men who are ready to balance strength with emotional availability. You may look steady on the outside but feel guarded inside quick to push through challenges yet slower to share what’s real. You might notice tension in your body that never fully eases, patterns of holding it all in, or a tendency to power through stress until something gives.
